The prayer of Yunus in distress
The words Yunus called out from the darkness: there is no god but you, glory to you, I was among the wrongdoers. Hadith describe it as a prayer no Muslim makes in distress without being answered.

The Arabic is published without an English rendering. The securely public-domain English translations are nineteenth-century orientalist work that no Muslim community uses devotionally, and setting one beside the Arabic would present it as the meaning of the prayer. Recitation in Islamic practice has conditions this entry makes no claim about; what is verified here is the wording of the edition named below. The verse is given whole, as the edition prints it, including the words that introduce the prayer, because this text is used on condition that it is not altered, and a verse cut short is altered.
