Memorial cardsEternal Rest, a prayer for the dead

A memorial card with Eternal Rest

A name, dates and, if you add one, a photo on the front. On the back, Eternal Rest exactly as its edition printed it, with the edition named under it. Free, and made in your browser: nothing you type or add here is sent anywhere.

On the front

About this text. Printed as it stands on page 543 of the 1889 Manual, where it closes Psalm 94, the psalm that opens the Office of the Dead, in the plural. The burial rite in the same book prints it in the singular, "unto him", and there it is the priest's versicle over the body, which is why that form is not the one printed here. The 1910 Raccolta gives an older rendering, "Eternal rest give unto them", as a versicle the faithful may say on their own, three times a day, for the dead.

What to print

In the print dialog, keep the scale at 100 percent (actual size) so the card prints at its true size.

What the back of the card promises

The words are the edition’s words, letter for letter, which is why they cannot be edited here. Under them the card names the edition and its year, says how the wording was checked, and prints this text’s address and version. A correction to the text, if one is ever made, is listed with its date at makeaprayer.com/corrections, so anyone holding a card years from now can check it.

Nobody credentialed in the tradition has chosen this prayer for a funeral or signed this card. It is a faithful copy of a text, not advice about which text to use. The family’s parish, temple or minister can say what their tradition expects.

What stays on this device

The name, the dates and the photo exist only in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded or saved, and closing the tab discards them. The PDF is your browser’s own Save as PDF, so the card is made on your computer and never on ours. What this site keeps.
