Prayers in Hebrew עברית

5 prayers this site holds in Hebrew, each printed from a named edition and checked against it before it was published.

The Hebrew here is a vocalised Masoretic text, and it is verified differently from everything else on this site. Two blind transcription passes work on a page a person reads and retypes; a pointed Hebrew text is a character encoding, and the failure it invites is not a misread word but a missing vowel point, which looks like nothing at all. So two independently maintained editions were compared character by character, vowel points included, and every verse agreed.

What is missing is liturgical rather than biblical. The Kaddish, the Amidah, Mi Sheberach and the framing paragraphs of the prayer book are siddur compositions that no Masoretic edition contains, and their public-domain Hebrew sits in Singer's 1890 volume, which has not been transcribed off the scan. Those prayers have pages here that say so.

These are traditional texts, not composed ones. The composer on this site assembles prayers from clause banks that were written by people, and there is no Hebrew bank, so there is nothing honest to compose from. Machine-translating a prayer would be the easy answer and the wrong one.
